[uruknet.info] Dana, what about Kashmiris self determination?

PAKISTANI leadership across the political divide has strongly reacted to the introduction of a resolution by US republican lawmaker in the congress seeking self determination right for Balochistan. Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani strongly condemning the move termed it as an attack on Pakistans sovereignty while other political leaders described it as an attempt to meddle in the internal affairs of the country.

Sensing strong resentment, the US Embassy in Islamabad distanced Washington from lawmaker Dana Rohrabachers ill advised move and said the US government respected Pakistans sovereignty and has nothing to do with the resolution. However, the embassy spokesman at the same time defended the act saying that there is a freedom in the US and every member can present a resolution on any subject to express his view point. Though the resolution is unlikely to have approval from the Congress yet it can do much harm to already strained relations between Pakistan and the United States.

It is quite likely that Dana might have genuinely felt denial of human rights in Balochistan but may we ask Dana and others what about the right of self determination of Kashmiri people? May we also ask is there no one who feels for the state sponsored terrorism, gang rapes, butchering of about one lakh Kashmiris and discovery of mass graves in Indian occupied Kashmir? Why the conscience of the US lawmaker, who claims to be the champion of human rights, is silent over large-scale violations in Kashmir in the past sixty four years? In our view this is the worst case of human rights violations in Kashmir on this planet earth and one wished that Dana had raised it so vociferously. It is clear that issues are deliberately got raised in the US congress to pressurize countries for the attainment of certain objectives. It was a message to Pakistan that if it did not follow the US lines, there were issues that could be raised and thus the country would be put in deep trouble. In fact it is duplicity of the US government and congress, totally devoid of moral principles in inter state relations and it would be advisable for the American legislators to refrain from indulging in internal matters of Pakistan otherwise they would only provoke more ire of the people and gain nothing.
